Types of water pipes according to materials

There are different types of water pipe. The main pipes can be plastic, metal or polyethylene.  The most commonly used pipes in hygiene networks are copper pipes. They emerged in the nineteenth century with the industrial revolution and were used massively since 1950. Copper pipes, little by little, have been replaced by other alternatives such as galvanized pipes, etc.

  • Stainless steel pipes: Steel is one of the preferred materials when making pipes, because it is designed in a way that does not suffer oxidation. In addition to the great resistance provided by this material, that is why the vast majority of Monel Pipe is stainless steel.

  • Galvanized pipes: It is one of the types of water pipes for housing widely used in this area, since this material helps prevent metal oxidation and increases its resistance to corrosion.

  • Copper pipes: This is most common types of water pipes in homes. Copper despite being more expensive than plastic is a very corrosion resistant material and is capable of withstanding high temperatures.Copper pipes are available in three different diameters: M for the smallest size, L for the medium size and K for the one with a larger thickness.

  • Pipes for drinking water: Some Hastelloy Pipe give off rust residues to their structure that does not happen with the drinking water pipes that are designed so that their ducts are always kept clean.

  • Electrical pipe: The electrical pipes are made of a flexible plastic so that electrical cables are introduced into them, thus protecting people from unexpected small current discharges.

  • Multilayer pipes: Multilayer pipes are designed for hardness. They are pipes with several coatings so that they do not break easily, being special for industrial uses and for construction.

Types of plastic sanitary water pipes: There are different types of plastic water pipes, PEX, CPVC, PVC, mainly.

  • Crosslinked Polyethylene Pipes (PEX): They have excellent characteristics such as high resistance to high temperatures. For this reason, they are used in water heating systems or boilers. These types of water pipes made of PEX material have an appearance between white and cream. The material is colored red or blue depending on whether hot or cold water is passing through the duct, respectively.

Polychlorinated Vinyl Chlorinated Pipes (CPVC): This type of water pipe is a derivative of PVC, although it has a higher chlorination than PVC pipes. Yellowish in appearance, it is able to withstand high temperatures and has more variety of uses. Even more than PVC pipes, since the external diameter is similar to that of copper pipes.
