What Is Plastic Injection Molding

Plastic has turn out to be one of the crucial materials in the current life of man. Thanks to its ability to be manipulated to adopt practically any shape, thus becoming one of the most revolutionary inventions in history.


The injection Plastic mold procedure is the most accepted technique for the development of plastic parts. This is due to the enormous variety of ways in which this material can be molded, even when they are complex, in addition to being a fast and efficient process.


The Molding Principle


The principle is very simple. The plastic material is melted by the machine and injected into the mold to give it the desired shape. This sounds simple, but it is a process that requires perfect timing of movement and timing.


The mold has two parts, which, when joined, form a cavity. During the process, a strong resistor melts the plastic and injects it into this space in the mold. It creates a part that solidifies and is automatically ejected.


The Plastic Injection Process: Step By Step


Power Unit


The process of Custom Injection Molding begins in a hopper that is filled with plastic granules through a dispenser. This is the raw material of any product fed into the barrel that drives the polymer through the injection unit.


Hydraulic Unit


For the molten material to advance through the injector unit's barrel, the screw is driven by a hydraulic system enabled by an electric motor. This causes an axial movement of the barrel and its blades in an everlasting flow.



Injection Unit


The polymer is melted with the heat generated by various bands of resistors placed around the barrel. The fluid is injected into the mold through the nozzle, exerting enough pressure to fill and solidify within the mold.


Molding Unit


It consists of a hydraulic or mechanical press made up of two mold-holder plates. It causes the hermetic union of both parts of the mold to form the cavity of the part. It also resists the strong pressure applied when the polymer is injected into the mold.


The other part is kept in motion during the molding cycle at OEM manufacturing China and is known as the extraction or closing part.


Mold


The mold is the most important part of the injection machine, as it is where the plastic part will take its shape and finish. It consists of two equal parts that are joined hermetically.


Each of the parts has a cavity filled with the hot polymer fluid, to take shape and replicate the corresponding part. The material is pressed by the injection unit to fill the mold cavity to 100% before cooling.


The parts of the mold are:


Channels: These are the conduits through which the molten polymer passes into the cavity due to the injection unit's pressure.


Cavity: It is the space where the injected polymer takes the shape of the piece.


Respirators: They are conduits through which the air exits the cavity, as the molten plastic fluid enters.


Cooling system: These are the conduits through which the coolant circulates to regulate the mold's temperature.


Pushpins: When opening the mold, these pins located in expel the molded part out of the cavity.
