Rumtek Monastery

Rumtek Monastery in northern Sikkim is the largest and most visited spiritual destination. It is an essential education and spiritual spot for scholars. Rumtek Monastery’s structure follows a traditional Buddhist pattern, and since then, many Indian monasteries have taken its design as the base.

The monastery is home to a shrine-temple, retreat center, monastic college, nun’s hostel, monastery, stupas, and various community administration centers. The place also has other religious institutions and a golden stupa which homes the antiques of the 16th Karmapa. It is one of the most crucial centers of the Buddhist Kagyu clan after Tibet.

Gorkha Singha Devi Temple

Gorkha Singha Devi Temple serves as a central location for worship in Kohima. Many followers have been coming here to worship Devi Maa for 100s of years. The temple’s origins date back to the 1800s, making it one of the oldest temples in Nagaland. The story of this temple is related to Maa Sati, whose retral part fell on the location of the temple after Devi died.

The Gurkhas of the northeast built this beautiful temple amid Kohima’s mega mountains and slopes. The temple also highlights the Gurkha settlement’s history, and devotees believe that whoever bows their head with respect, faith, and devotion, the Devi will bless them.

Phodong Monastery

Phodong Monastery is an essential Kagyupa sect monastery of the Phodong region, completed in 1740 A.D. after King Gyurmed Namgyal’s death, who founded it. An earthquake damaged the original monastery, but the Lamas soon raised it from the rubble in 1977 as an enormous monastery.

One can find this colorful monastery about 38 km from Gangtok. In addition, tourists can see many nearby attractions such as Labrang Monastery with a unique architectural pattern and Phensang Monastery, where they can see outstanding district views.

Bhuvaneswari Temple

The Bhuvaneswari Temple, located on the bank of the Gomati River in Udaipur, is one of the most popular travel locations in Tripura. Its construction on a 3 feet high paved roof with four-chaala with stupas has a unique structure.

Bhuvaneswari Temple is a famous Hindu temple, which Rabindranath Tagore commemorated in Rajarshi and Visarjan are famous plays. Fun fact, this temple is near the Royal Palace.

Pemayangtse Monastery

Pemayangtse Monastery is one of the age-old monasteries in Pelling, Sikkim, one of the three lamas in Yuksom, Lhatsun Chempo, founded in the 17th century, making it a 321-year-old traditional monastery where Bhutia family’s monks still reside.

The monastery is sectioned into three parts, out of which the interiors hold sculptures and scroll paintings of the eight incarnations of Padmasambhava. Thus, it is a perfect destination to find inner peace and Rabdentse’s traces, a former kingdom in Sikkim.
