People want to stay fit, healthy, and disease-free; they don’t want to go to doctors and get heavy antibiotics, and even if it’s the last option they would never want to get surgery. But no matter how fit or healthy one is a small or big disease is unavoidable sometimes.

But now thanks to laparoscopic surgery one is feeling more confident to get operated on if required, thanks to its several benefits such as speed recovery, minimal bleeding, and early return to work. But still one needs to listen to their doctor and follow their instructions even after treatment.

Here are some do’s and don’ts for a person after a laparoscopic operation, if they don’t want frequent revisits to their doctor after an operation.

How to take care of yourself after laparoscopic surgery?

The do’s

Walking: - Walking is the best way for one to stay fit and active. It’s safe to start walking after surgery, one should just take care that they are not covering long distances during the beginning.

They can start by small strolls around one’s house or apartment or to the corner of their street and then slowly increase the distance as days pass; this is a great way for one to boost their blood flow and help in preventing pneumonia and constipation that may occur after a laparoscopy.

Take a break: - It is recommended for one to take, at least a 2-week break from their work after surgery. The amount of break time depends on the type of work that they do. For example, if one is a heavy machinery worker they may need a longer break.

One should not forget to inform their employer that they are not 100% after operation and request for a longer break if one requires it.

Changes in diet: - One may feel an upset stomach after a laparoscopic surgery; if that’s the case they should switch to bland low-fat food such as plain rice, broiled chicken, toast, or yogurt. They should also take plenty of caffeine-free liquids to prevent dehydration and have healthy urine.

If one has heart, liver, or kidney disease, they should consult with their doctor before increasing the number of liquids since irregular bowel movements are common after surgery. One should try regularly taking a fiber supplement in that case. If one had no bowel movements after surgery they should ask their doctor, if they can consume a mild laxative.

Washing the incision: - For normal recovery, one should wash the area where the surgeon made the incision to operate regularly with warm, soapy water and then pat it to dry. One should be extremely careful not to use hydrogen peroxide or alcohol to clean the area as doing so will slow down recovery.

One can cover the area with a gauze bandage to keep it dry and not rub against any clothing. Don’t forget to change the bandage daily.

The don’ts

Cross the limits: - A patient may sometimes push oneself too hard to recover sooner than recommended, this is a tendency in patients as they want to resume normal life as soon as possible, but not listening to one’s doctor can be the worst mistake they ever did.

One should avoid all strenuous activities such as bike riding, jogging, weight lifting, yoga, aerobic exercises, lifting heavy grocery bags, cat litter, dog food bags, using a vacuum cleaner or lifting children, etc. They can resume such activities after their doctor gives them a green signal to do so.

Driving: - Driving cars require one to quickly move their foot from the gas paddle to the brakes, this is also one strenuous activity where one needs to sit at one place for hours, even if one has not planned for a long trip, they still might meet high traffic situations.

However one can start driving once their pain medication is over and they are feeling 100% comfortable while driving.

Stop taking medicine: - This is pretty straightforward after any kind of operation, not just laparoscopic surgery.

If one’s doctor has prescribed them some antibiotics then stopping to take them can cause unwanted side effects. So the bottom line is to complete the course, even if one feels better they should not in any case stop taking the medicines mid-course.

Remove tapes: - Removing tape or apes from the area of the incision can cause excessive bleeding. One should wait for the tape to come off on its own.
Remember that each patient has a different pace of recovery and recovering from laparoscopic surgery is a surety.

It is recommended for one to eat apples, do exercise and yoga to remain fit and healthy, but if they still get infected with piles, hernia, or some other horrible disease they can always go to one of the Best Laparoscopic Surgeon In Jaipur.
