Choosing home tutor requires a comprehensive approach rather than being a narrow choice. The same is applicable when it comes to the gender preference while choosing a private tutor. It is difficult to pinpoint a precise reason on why to opt a male or female, however it is discretionary. The very first request we hear when a pickup a business call is are you going to provide female tutor for my daughter? For that matter, it makes sense especially if the student is either too young or a teenage girl. Nevertheless, it is a subjective choice because some parents opt for either male or female for no reason but it is important to delineate the pros and cons of recruiting a male or5 female tutor. Looking at the current scenario of safety of a girl, there is no wonder parents specifically request female tutor for a girl student. However, some are of the view that knowledge matters but not the gender. Here comes the question on to whether to look for opting a tutor for the reason he is knowledgeable or to go with gender preference irrespective of knowledge. As the days have changed, even at the school level there is no room for bias over teacher’s gender however, it is the matter of one-one interaction that makes issue further sensitive. Being vigilant of preconscious about the consequences is not a bad idea though but it is also important to look at the suitability of a tutor for a given student. There are both advantages and disadvantages when it comes to choose a tutor of specific gender. Let us brush through some pros and cons of choosing a specific gender when it comes to home tutor.

What parents had to say about gender preference?
“I have been in and out of India from the past 12 years; none of the times I was available to supervise my kid. She is in her class 11 now and doing great despite the fact that I have arranged a home tutor from Innoclazz , who has been teaching her since my daughter was in class-7.It seems like she has habituated his presence and the tutor is in his middle age; my family strongly and my daughter accolades him every single class and none of the times we were uncomfortable with the way he interacts and behaves with her and the family as a whole “Mrs. Anita Collins adds. Anita is a software professional and a frequent traveler as the company demands her to do so. As per the research conducted by a team of researchers from Roehampton, London Metropolitan and Newcastle universities, students never really bothered if the teacher is He or SHE. But very negligible number of female students stated that male teachers could be role models. Out of the 300 random samples from 5 schools there were, students studying in classes 6-8. The respondents were keen to look at quality of the teacher rather than their gender. Children said "Men and women are the same, they're both teachers, they both teach the same stuff but what really, makes the difference is do they understand what they are teaching and are they able to trace the group specific things that distracts or improves learning. However, it is as bit different when it comes to Indian scenario because whenever a HR from Innoclazz calls for asking the parent`s requirement after we receive the lead; they generally point out the necessity and advantage of having a female tutor rather than a male. Some parents opine that student, irrespective of boy or girl, is more comfortable with the teacher from same gender especially when a female student is on board it is highly preferable that a female tutors makes a huge difference . When we explored the reason behind the statement, parents stated that female tutors have more patience, they can visit student`s home irrespective of parents are at home or not. This infers that there are many reasons behind the preference for gender in a teacher. Quite recently we met with one of our customer, who is a parent of Ms.Anandi whom we offered a young male home tutor Mr. Ranjith Das, said the tutor was exceptionally great he said. He also added, without him my daughter wouldn’t have entered into NEET stream as she got more interest on studies from the moment he started teaching her. This proved the fact that there are parents and students who really don’t care about the gender of a teacher. However, one of our parents reported that we found particularly interesting fact that boys were just as likely to say they wanted to be like their Madams( female tutors) than their Sirs (male teachers), and vice versa for the girls. Leaving aside the scenarios in private tutoring, I have personally witnessed that many students studying in classes 1-4 loved being with a female teacher may be because she is more like their mother. In fact this is also true in many cases. Quite contrarily, one of the principal of a high school quoted "It must be very discouraging for female primary teachers to know they were considered to be inadequate when it came to teaching boys, and insulting for male teachers to be judged on the basis of their masculinity and the 'right kind' of masculinity at that."

In a nut shell, the responses were mixed as few were really concerned about the gender while the rest were least bothered about male or a female tutor. About 40% of the parents stated that , students have to learn being with both the genders and the same is applicable to society hence it doesn’t really matter which gender is a teacher belongs to.
